Itinerary
The starting point of the trail is the parish of Água D'Alto, on the south coast of the island of São Miguel, approximately 25 minutes by car from the city of Ponta Delgada.
Start the route with a climb, passing through several pastures, which will take you to areas where you can observe different types of vegetation, such as cryptomerics and orchards. Along the trail you can enjoy panoramic views of the first village on the island of São Miguel, Vila Franca do Campo, so well known for its magnificent
islet.
Then you will pass through the stream of water, with its beautiful reflections of vegetation, used from ancient times to the present day for transporting water.
At the end of the climb, marvel at the majestic mountains and abundant endemic vegetation until you reach the most awaited place, Lagoa do Fogo. Lunch will be next to the banks of the lagoon, while enjoying the crystal clear water of one of Portugal's nature reserves. When you return you will have a steep descent, along which you can contemplate the hydrangeas and the view of the south coast of the island
.
End the day relaxing in a quiet spot or by the sea. Depending on the weather conditions, the group's abilities and the participants' interest, the guide can suggest several places to visit. These can be places such as beaches, the town of Caloura, Vila Franca do Campo or other places where you can choose a refreshing or hot drink
.
