Private Tour to discover Évora!
Duration
8 Hours
About
Leaving Lisbon via the 25th of April bridge and driving for an hour and a half through the relaxing Alentejo plains, we arrived in Évora, a city with an ancient history that goes back to Prehistory. Its historic center is one of the most monumental in Portugal, which earned it the classification as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986 and also the surname of
Museum City.
After circling the medieval walls, we will take a walking tour of what was also one of the most notable Roman cities in Lusitania: Ebora Liberalitas Julia. We will visit the Roman Temple of Diana, but also the impressive Chapel of Bones, in the Church of San Francisco, Geraldo Square and the Cathedral of Évora, which is the largest medieval cathedral in the country
.
The local cuisine is one of the great attractions of this region. Évora is the ideal place to be introduced to traditional Alentejo food, whose base is pork and lamb, but also bread. This tour has several optional stops, one of which is a visit, upon reservation, to Adega da Cartuxa, famous for the Pera Manca red wine, considered one of the best
wines in Portugal.
Another option is a trip to the Cromeleque dos Almendres, 12 km west of Évora. This is the most important megalithic monument of its kind in the Iberian Peninsula and one of the most important in Europe, not only because of its size, but also because of its state of conservation
.
Then, we return to the capital via Ponte 25 de Abril, which gives us another opportunity to enjoy impressive views over Lisbon.
